Last summer, we launched our inaugural BSR Book Week, and we enjoyed it so much, we brought it back this year. Do you need a compelling, little-known read about local history that'll teach you something you never expected, or do you need a juicy novel to take down the shore? Maybe you need both, along with poetry, memoir, short stories, and more.

Don't miss our roster of book reviews, most of them spotlighting Philly-area stories, Philly authors, or Philly presses. These will be taking over the BSR homepage all week.

We're also thrilled to offer two giveaways thanks to local authors Emma Copley Eisenberg and Xio Axelrod. Eisenberg's first novel, Housemates, was just released last week. I read an advance copy, picking it up on a Friday night and finishing it on Sunday afternoon. It's getting rave reviews, and if you like questions about who gets to make art, build legacies, and experience love in 21st-century America, this one's for you. Axelrod's Girls with Bad Reputations is the follow-up to her best-selling The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes about a Philly-based all-women rock band on the cusp of stardom. It combines an authentic Philly music-scene setting with important conversations on justice and a sexy, slow-burn romance.

Thanks to Eisenberg and Axelrod, we're giving away a signed copy of each novel. Check out our Instagram page for your chance to win. The giveaway is running through 5pm ET on Thursday, June 6, and we'll be announcing the winners at our BSR Book Week publishing panel. (More on that below!) You don't have to be present to win.

We're also excited for WITH YOUR POWERS COMBINED: A BSR Book Week publishing panel. It's coming up this Thursday, June 6, at 6:30pm ET on Zoom. (Yes, it'll be recorded, so even if you can't attend live, you can register and view the session later.) We'll hear from our panelists, five of Philly's top literary luminaries (including Axelrod!) about the modern publishing business. Bring your questions! Tickets are a suggested $20 donation to BSR, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Here's that RSVP link again.

Our subscribers had an early look at this year's Book Week with a list of books by BSR writers. That list will be public soon, as well as a list of reading recommendations from our staff. Let us know (in the comments, via email, or on the BSR Instagram) what you're reading, and what you'd like to see for future Book Weeks.
