Art meets the challenges of urban living and mobility with a special pop-up exhibition from SPOKE magazine. (SPOKE founding editor Matt Bevilacqua is a regular BSR contributor.) OUTBOUND is coming to MOTO designshop for November’s First Friday, and the event will extend into a lively interdisciplinary presentation on Saturday night.

The OUTBOUND show will feature work from 22 artists (including photographer and activist Tieshka Smith of Racism Is a Sickness and illustrator Hawk Krall) “exploring themes related to mobility, community, and the future of Philadelphia.” The gallery will open in time for First Friday’s usual kick-off at 5pm, and stay open until 10pm, with snacks and drinks on hand.

According to SPOKE, the selected artworks provoke “conversations about movement, culture, and the built environment in the context of Philadelphia community,” with a special focus on the intersection of mobility and social progress, rooted in the artistic movement of futurism, to “represent new visions for an urban society.”

On Saturday night, SPOKE is hosting its first pecha kucha event, featuring quick presentations from a diverse set of nine speakers in the gallery space, including artists, urban designers, architects, and “data geeks.” They’ll expand on the connections between art, design, social justice, transportation, and futurism. Doors will open at 6pm and presentations will begin at 7pm (seating is limited).

SPOKE magazine’s OUTBOUND events are coming to MOTO designshop (228 Vine Street, Philadelphia) on Friday, November 4 from 5-10pm and Saturday, November 5 beginning at 6pm.
