Red 40 and the Last Groovement celebrate their first album
Over the last three years, Red 40 and the Last Groovement has been getting to know you onstage throughout Philly, and this month, they’re finally ready to go home with you.
After taking a few months off from live shows to record their first LP, the Groovement is bringing all the hair, all the sequins, and their unabashedly sexy, raucous, and playful one-of-a-kind “funk/clown/disco/pop-rock” sound back in its full glory on the FringeArts stage to release their first album, SHE’S KEEN TO FEED, on October 29.
Lead singer and songwriter Martha Stuckey (aka Red 40) and fierce backups Tambo Ya-Ya (BRAT Productions’s Jess Conda), Boogaloo Borine (Caitlin Antram), and Candy Scrapple (Lightning Rod Special’s Alice Yorke), along with the band and their dancer, recorded the complete songs live in the studio, decked in full costume, to bring the authentic energy of their sound to the album.
Like Lightning Rod Special (creator of 2015 Fringe Festival hit Underground Railroad Game, recently revived at FringeArts), the Groovement is yet another local arts sensation to come out of the Pig Iron School for Advanced Performance Training. (Pig Iron alum Ben Grinberg, aka the Groovment's Hot Moist Tooth, is also a founding member of Almanac Dance Circus Theatre.)
The party is happening the weekend before Halloween, and the Groovement advises that it’s fine to wear your Halloween costume as long as it’s comfortable enough for you to dance all night in. The event will celebrate sex, food, and femininity.
The release party for Red 40 and the Last Groovement’s first album, SHE’S KEEN TO FEED, is coming to FringeArts, 140 N. Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia, on October 29. Doors at 9:30pm; show at 10:30pm. Advance general admission tickets ($15) are available online.
