Orchestra 2001 presents unusual programs, and their tribute to Martin Luther King is no exception. Every piece on the roster will be a premiere aside from the opening number, Jennifer Higdon’s 2003 Celebration Fanfare. One of the hottest young soloists in America, clarinetist Anthony McGill, will take the starring role in Richard Danielpour’s new clarinet concerto From the Mountaintop. The Gospel Choir of the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas will introduce A Voice Cries Out by Jay Fluellen — an eclectic composer who has worked in every currently active musical genre. Young musicians from Play On, Philly! (shown) will join the musicians of Orchestra 2001 in premieres of new works by student composers celebrating one of the great voices of the 20th century.

Saturday, January 18, 8pm Perelman Theater, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Sunday, January 26, 3pm, Lang Concert Hall, Swarthmore College. $35, seniors $25, students $15. Sunday concert free. 267-687-6243 or www.orchestra2001.org
