Marie Curie's Radiant Ball at the Mütter Museum

On Friday, April 12, from 7-10pm, the Mütter Museum will be debuting the first annual Marie Curie’s Radiant Ball, inspired by Marie Curie’s first visit to the United States in 1921. Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and was one of the most essential figures in the history of medicine. When she visited the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, she not only shared her radium research and inventions which led to life-saving advancements, she also made it a point to promote science professions to women and girls. She was truly ahead of her time, and is one of the few female historical figures whose work was not obscured or diminished, but appreciated both in her own time and currently.
Looking radiant
Now, over a hundred years later, the Mütter Museum is at once celebrating Curie’s relevance to the medical community and offering an enticing new Spring event amidst the backdrop of their fascinating collection. The evening will begin with Radiant Ball attendees being greeted by an artistic lighting display that will honor the radiant theme. Inside, guests will have an opportunity to view a special selection of artifacts related to Curie’s work for one night only.
They will also be treated to the lively, brassy tunes of Drew Nugent & the Midnight Society, a collective that specializes in the particular style of jazz made popular by speakeasies from the 1920s up until the 1940s. Guests will also be free to take in the entire Mütter collection, including medical instruments and anomalous anatomical samples, through self-guided tours.
The suggested attire is cocktail finery with an eye toward timelessness, uniqueness, and a splash of scientific flair. Tickets for the Radiant Ball are $50 and include museum admission, hor d'oeuvres, and one drink ticket for the cash bar. Tickets have been going fast but there is still time for science enthusiasts, jazz music enthusiasts, and people who just want to have a fun Friday night, to be a part of the first Marie Curie’s Radiant Ball.
