Are you a theater fan looking for something shorter than a sitcom but a little longer than a tweet? The One-Minute Play Festival (#1MPF), which partners annually with many theater companies across the country, is getting ready for its second visit to Philly, thanks to InterAct Theatre Company.

Philly’s #1MPF is coming to the Adrienne’s mainstage on August 3, 4, and 5.

“The challenge was for the writers to dig deeper into who they are, where they are, and what they care about. It’s interesting to track what bubbled up to the surface this year through the work, and I can’t wait to share it with the wider community,” says Dominic D’Andrea, #1MPF’s producing artistic director and Philly festival curator.

With a goal of “radical inclusion” that welcomes all kinds of playwrights at all stages of their careers, #1MPF fosters work that creates “dialogue between the collective conscious and the individual voice.”

Playwrights join the program upon invitation and have several weeks to finish their one-minute offerings, which are then developed by teams of directors and actors, and staged with four chairs.

This year’s playwrights include many of the city’s notable writers, like P. Seth Bauer, Joy Cutler, Bruce Walsh, Kimmika Williams-Witherspoon, Michael Hollinger, and many others — over 60 in all, contributing about 90 micro-plays. John Doyle, David O’Connor, Daniel Student, Tina Brock, Claire Moyer, Will Steinberger, Lizzy Pecora, Michael Durkin, Nick Anselmo, and Tamanya Garza make up the list of participating directors.

#1MPF playwrights and audiences are in good company: Artists like David Henry Hwang, Neil LaBute, Tina Howe, and Donald Margulies have contributed to past festivals.

The One-Minute Play Festival and InterAct Theatre Company present Philly’s 2nd Annual One-Minute Play Festival on August 3, 4, and 5 at 8pm on the main stage at the Adrienne Theater, 2030 Sansom Street, Philadelphia.
