Find the art of love with 'ErotiCLAY' at the Clay Studio
It’s not often that an art exhibition’s tagline is that it’s “tastefully concealed,” but that’s the word on the Clay Studio’s new show: "ErotiCLAY." Twenty artists contribute “a veritable smorgasbord of sexual expression” in ceramics, waiting behind a red velvet curtain in the Clay Studio’s Bonovitz Space.
“This is one exhibition that needs to be seen to be believed, but one that viewers won’t be able to unsee,” the Clay Studio says of the show, put together by its former curator of artistic programs, Garth Johnson. The show’s influences tap into our baser urges going all the way back the Paleolithic Era, those naughty ancient Greeks, “racy” Indian miniatures, the explicit romps of Japanese shunga, and more.
Sound like the perfect appetizer for your Valentine’s Day dinner? The Clay Studio is open from 11am-6pm on Saturdays.
The Clay Studio also offers ongoing Date Nights. This month's Date Nights, when couples will channel their inner Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze with a pottery wheel lesson by candlelight on February 12, 13, and 14, are already sold out, but you can get on the waitlist at 215-925-3453. Chocolate, champagne, and wine are included for the price of $135 per couple.
There are still a few spots available for an "ErotiCLAY" event on Wednesday, February 11 at 6:30pm, featuring “a buffet of aphrodisiac oysters” from East Girard Gastropub, drinks, and other snacks ($35).
"ErotiCLAY" is on display at the Clay Studio, 137-139 N. Second Street, Philadelphia, through March 1. Studio hours are Monday through Saturday, 11am-6pm and Sunday from noon to 6pm.
