Dolce Suono with a Latin twist
Mimi Stillman has proved that a tango played on the flute can be just as evocative and exciting as a tango danced by a pair of Argentine romantics. On May 31, she’ll join three of her Dolce Suono colleagues in a program devoted to music for flute, cello, piano, and percussion by six Latin American and Spanish composers and one wide-ranging American eclectic, David Amram. If you haven’t visited Curtis’s new Gould Rehearsal Hall, this is a good chance to check out one of the most attractive music halls in the city. Come at 7:30 and you can hear the whole Dolce Suono quartet playing side by side with students from the Pan American Academy.
The Dolce Suono Ensemble will present Música en tus Manos (Music in Your Hands) on Saturday, May 31 at 8pm in the Gould Rehearsal Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music, 1616 Locust Street, Philadelphia. The program will be preceded by a side-by-side performance with students from Pan American Academy (7:30pm). General admission tickets, available in advance and at the door, are $25 ($20 for seniors and $10 for students). For tickets and more information, visit dolcesuono.com or call 267-252-1803.
