To celebrate Black History Month, the University City Arts League is teaming up with Diartspora Gallery for “Finding Faces: A Century of African-American Portraiture.” Diartspora’s mission is to present artwork portraying “the richness and creative spirit in the life and culture of the African-American community,” and this show includes 25 paintings, sculptures, and photographs. It’s curated by artist Douglas Witmer and photographer Lori Waselchuk.

A special reception on Thursday, February 20 from 6-8pm will welcome Diartspora founders and collectors Michael Guerin and Katie Pfeiffer, who will talk about 20 years of discovering art in the neighborhoods of West Philadelphia and beyond.

“Finding Faces: A Century of African-American Portraiture” is on display at the University City Arts League, 4226 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, through February 28. For more information, visit the Diartspora website.
