Coming up in Philly music: Vivaldi, Dvořák, and the Wanamaker Organ

St. Peter’s concert series continues with a performance by the Amici Strings on Sunday, January 10 at 4pm. The free concert will feature the Concerto for Strings in C minor by Antonio Vivaldi, Edward Elgar’s Romantic Serenade, Dag Wirén’s March, Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite, and Carl Nielsen’s Little Suite for String Orchestra. The concert will take place at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 121 Church Street, Phoenixville. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Music at Abington resumes with a concert given by members of the Riverside Chamber Players along with the Amabile String Quintet. They will present Schubert’s Die Forelle and Trout Quintet, as well as Antonín Dvořák’s American Quartet. The concert will take place on Sunday, January 17 at 4pm at Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road, Abington. Admission is free, and there is no reserved seating, but a free will offering will be accepted.

Many are accustomed to visiting Macy’s each holiday season for its annual light show, which runs through January 1. But what seems to be less well known is that concerts on the Wanamaker organ, the world’s largest functioning pipe organ, continue throughout the year (and one of the organists is yours truly). The organ is played from noon to 12:45pm from Monday through Friday; at 5:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays; and at 7pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.
