Allen Krantz is one of the most popular guest musicians in the Philadelphia region, appearing regularly with most of the local chamber-music groups. For his annual Concerts by Candlelight appearance, he’ll be going solo in the perfect setting for a guitar recital: the living room of the Laurel Hill mansion, with windows that overlook the banks of the Schuylkill.

Krantz is an entertaining speaker and his programs usually include lighthearted, informative comments on the background of the pieces he plays. His selections for the evening include five 16th-century lute pieces arranged for the guitar, an 18th-century sonata, and one of his own 21st-century contributions to the guitar literature. The salon will end, as usual, with a reception on the back porch of the mansion.

Concerts by Candlelight will present guitarist Allen Krantz at 6:30pm on August 6 at Laurel Hill Mansion, Randolph Drive, East Fairmount Park. Tickets are $25 and they’re available online and at 215-235-1776.
