Allen Krantz is an entertaining, personable speaker in addition to being a guitarist with an elegant, nuanced touch. He’s taught music courses at Temple and informed Philadelphia Orchestra audiences at the Orchestra’s pre-concert lecture series. The living room of the Laurel Hill Mansion in Fairmount Park is an ideal site for his combination of high-class music making and informative, relaxed discussion. He’s been a regular on the Laurel Hill Concerts by Candlelight series for more than thirty years, and his annual appearances are one of the highlights of the series.

The Laurel Hill concerts take place in the kind of informal home setting composers usually had in mind when they wrote chamber music. There’s a reception afterward, on the veranda overlooking the Schuylkill, and you can continue any conversations inspired by the performance.

Concerts by Candlelight will present guitarist Allen Krantz at 6:30pm on Sunday, August 5, at Laurel Hill Mansion (Randolph Drive, East Fairmount Park). Tickets are $25 and they’re available online, by calling 215-643-7923, and at the door.
