Bach on Third Wednesday

Johann Sebastian Bach 1746

The Bach Festival of Philadelphia has adopted a new format: a series of monthly Wednesday evening performances devoted to Bach cantatas and works related to Bach’s output. The concerts start at 7:00, last about an hour, and take place under the capable direction of Matthew Glandorf, the director of the Bach Festival and Choral Arts Philadelphia. The November 20th event teams Bach’s Cantata 106 with the solos from Henry Purcell’s Funeral Music for Queen Mary and a sonata by one of Bach’s forerunners, Johannes Schenck. The early hour and limited duration create a high-level midweek Happy Hour, complete with post-concert wine and goodies.

Bach At Seven Cantata Series: 7 PM at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1625 Locust St. Third Wednesday of every month, except January, through April. No admission required, “pay what you wish” ($20 donation recommended). More information at www.choralarts.com
