A South Philly family’s unexpected WWII legacy. These are just a few of the books we’ll highlight in our first-ever BSR Book Week, running July 10-16, 2023.
Book reviews galore
Philly has a thriving community of authors, publishers, bookstores, and readers, and for the first time, we’re going to give our homepage entirely over to book reviews. The variety of books we’ll feature (novels, poetry, memoir, new translation, nonfiction, history, and more, including exciting debut works) reflect our writers’ diverse interests—while spotlighting Philly authors, Philly presses, and authentic Philly settings.
Books by BSR writers
We’ll also be releasing our first-ever guide to books by BSR contributors, another wide-ranging collection by some of the region’s top writers: nonfiction, novels, short stories, essays, history, and more. Subscribers will have early access to this list with July’s BSR in the Wild mailer (no paywall; sign up here) hitting inboxes on June 30.
BSR Book Chat returns
We’re also looking forward to bringing back our popular virtual BSR Book Chat on Thursday, July 13, at 7pm EST. Join BSR staff and writers on Zoom to hear our top book recommendations, and share your own. This gathering is free for BSR writers and Friends of BSR, and all others are welcome with a suggested $10 donation. RSVP here!
BSR Book Week will be a chance to explore Philly’s literary scene, get to know your favorite BSR writers in a new way, and swap favorite books with our community.
