Erlina Ortiz, a Dominican American playwright from Reading, is a fixture of Philly's arts scene: the award-winning writer is also the co-artistic director of Power Street Theatre. Her La Egoísta won the 2022 National Latine Playwriting Award, premiered at Actors Theatre of Louisville and Skylight Theatre, and was featured on the 2023 Kilroys WEB. Now it's onstage in Philly, with a production on Philadelphia Theatre Company's Suzanne Roberts stage running October 4 to 20, 2024.

The play follows Josefina, a rising stand-up comic from Philly who has recently lost her mother and is now coping with her sister's sudden illness. This comedy "about being selfish in pursuit of your dreams but selfless with the people you love" explores "sisterhood, caregiving, and search for balance between career and family." Tatyana-Marie Carlo directs the PTC production, starring Sasha Merci and María Gabriela González.
