Part of me wishes I could say that I did something momentous or exciting over our two-week hiatus, but I don't regret my relaxing staycation at all. I celebrated my 39th birthday, visited friends, and did a lot of reading: Stephen King, Megan O'Rourke, Diana Gabaldon, Stephen Graham Jones, Stephanie Coontz, and that new thriller by Matt and Harrison Query, the one that got started on r/nosleep.
Our team appreciated many messages from our community that affirmed the value both of our work and our rest. We hope you have also had a chance to relax this summer. We're excited to tackle the new season with you.
This week, we have reviews of a new book about Philly's historic Black political landscape, the latest at People's Light, and a new solo show that champions fat performers, who are routinely overlooked in a theater industry that doesn't represent its audience. And don't miss Anndee Hochman's new essay about a surprising trip to Chile.
We're glad to see you again after our break! Thanks as always for reading.
