As I prepared this week's stories, I was struck not just by the breadth of our coverage, but its depth--the kind of depth you can only get from professional arts writers who have been on the scene for years, following our artists and considering many seasons of their work.
When Camille Bacon-Smith interviewed Philadelphia Ballet artistic director Angel Corella about his 10 years in the job, she asked important questions while drawing on years of reviewing his ballets. Now BSR readers can revisit those reviews as they consider Camille's in-depth profile. Other writers this week also demonstrate their experience: Josh Herren was well-acquainted with 1812 before he sat down for 2024's This Is the Week That Is, and Erin Dohony is a theater writer who also has experience in comedy, which was perfect for reviewing Hedgerow's Robin & Me.
Folks who step up to support BSR aren't just powering Philly-area arts coverage generally; they're enabling the careers of cultural writers while other outlets let their platforms crumble, to the detriment of everyone who wants to understand our world better. We're proud of the way our work stands as a major record of artists' work in our region, and we're proud to mentor and publish cultural writers.
Also on deck this week we have reviews of the latest at PTC, the Strides Collective, and Theatre Horizon, with lots more to come in late October. And look out soon for an event announcement! We're bringing back one of our popular webinars, and our subscribers will get the first chance to register.
Monday, October 21 is the last day to register to vote in PA if you want to cast a ballot on or before Election Day (November 5). Check your status and make a plan.
