For two years now we've enjoyed BSR Book Week in the summertime, and I thought we'd cozy up these darkest days of December with another round of book reviews. Each of these books has a strong Philly tie, and as I edited each review, I realized that I would probably add most of them to my own shelf (an occupational hazard). I bet you or someone you love needs at least one of them.
We've got a new edition of an insider's narrative on the still-controversial move of the Barnes, the latest graphic novel from Philly cult favorite artist Charles Burns, a visit with Peter Schmitz in honor of his new book all about Philly's theater history, a behind-the-scenes tour of Philly's juiciest TV news stories, and an absorbing and surprising new book about Philly's architectural history.
In case you're in the mood for even more books, don't miss the bonus stories below! And if you're feeling the Christmas spirit, Philly-style, we have a review of the return of One-Man Nutcracker (it runs through December 29).
Kyle will be with you tomorrow with his weekly picks. And then look out on Friday (December 20) for our 2024 BSR Year-End Recommend, where our staff brings you our top recommendations of the year, including books, movies, music, podcasts, and more. BSR subscribers get early access to the list, before it goes up for the public next week!
Speaking of next week, we won't be coming to you with our regular newsletters, as our team takes a much-needed break from December 24-January 5. We hope you can carve out some rest too in the coming days.
