This is the only way to get our team’s Fringe itinerary! Check out where we’ll be for the next seven days.
FIND ALAINA: Late Night Snacks WHEN: Friday, September 9 (media preview) WHERE: The Switch WHY: BSR is heading to the pre-show of the Bearded Ladies Cabaret, which opens to the public on September 10. Each night is different: drag queens, opera stars, spoken word, and everything in between. It’s pay-what-you-can!
FIND NEIL: The N Crowd WHEN: Friday, September 9 WHERE: Twitch WHY: I’m in this show! Shortform improv is such a fun medium of play and entertainment. The N Crowd has honed our show and cast sharply. We’ve also had the opportunity to experiment with what it means to perform virtually, which has in fact heightened our ability to interact with audience members.
FIND GABRIELLE KAPLAN-MAYER: LGBTQuiet WHEN: Saturday, September 10 WHERE: Venice Island Performing Arts Center WHY: Hi, I’m Gabby, BSR’s social-media manager. I think it’s very cool that the Fringe is including this timely production, inspired by the discourse surrounding the Don’t Say Gay Bill, performed by Philly teens!
FIND ALAINA: Fresh Ink Shorts WHEN: Saturday, September 10 WHERE: The Skinner Studio at Plays and Players WHY: This 75-minute show promises a lighting round of brand-new short plays. I want to see some of the freshest work the Fringe had to offer, and this sounds like a fun pick.
I Hear You and I’d Like to Respond WHEN: Sunday, September 11 WHERE: Icebox Project Space WHY: Tell me you’re in therapy without telling me you’re in therapy. I always look out for the latest from Almanac Dance Circus Theatre, and this is no exception. It looks particularly enticing for people who are fascinated by human communication.
FIND NEIL: Betty Takes Charge: The Gauntlet of Joy WHEN: Sunday, September 11 WHERE: Fergie’s Pub WHY: I love comedy shows that play with the form of what a comedy show needs to be. Betty Smithsonian has been developing more and more innovations over the past years, Free Fringe among them, and I’m eager to see just what happens with this lineup of talent!
FIND NEIL AND ALAINA: Nitty Gritty: A Philly-themed Storytelling Show WHEN: Wednesday, September 14 WHERE: Theatre Exile WHY: Who doesn’t love a night of true stories about life in the inimitable Philadelphia, thanks to Crossroads Comedy and Philly storytelling icon Geoff Jackson? Plus it’s happening right in our South Philly neighborhood. This one was a no-brainer.
FIND GABBY: Late Night Snacks WHEN: Sunday, September 11, a family-friendly show WHERE: The Switch WHY: I’ve wanted to see The Bearded Ladies Cabaret for some time–and am excited they’re offering a family show Sunday afternoon! I’m taking one of my kids who is passionate about performance.
FIND ALAINA: Abortions for All: A Planned Comedy Showcase WHEN: Thursday, September 15 WHERE: Tattooed Mom WHY: This Free Fringe show at Tattooed Mom boasts local comics like Betty Smithsonian, Rachel Fogletto, and Kat Mosely, plus a fundraiser for Abortion Liberation Fund of PA. See you there!
We love bringing this to you and couldn’t do it without your support, including one-time donations of any size. But the folks who sign up for an automatic monthly donation (starting at just $5), are powering our future. You read BSR. Can you put a few bucks behind us too?
Say hi if you see us! And let us know what you’re going to see!
