Fluent in Italian, German, and French, Philadelphian Susan Gould is an instructor, interpreter, and translator; proofreader/editor; and foreign-language diction coach for singers. She has been writing professionally about classical music and dance for several decades, for publications here and in Europe, where she lived for 15 years.

Born in Philadelphia and a proud graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Girls, Susan Gould has been writing professionally about classical music since her undergraduate days at Barnard College in New York and about ballet and other dance forms since pursuing graduate studies in musicology at Villa Schifanoia in Florence, Italy. During 15 years in Europe, she wrote for American and European publications such as Opera News, High Fidelity, Dance Magazine (NY), Opera (UK), Opernwelt, Orpheus (Germany), Musica (Italy) and Lyrica (France) as well as for the Japanese music magazine In Tune. She has written liner notes for recordings and program notes for opera companies and orchestras.

Among the artists she has interviewed have been sopranos Beverly Sills, Renata Tebaldi, Renee Fleming, and Lucia Popp; mezzos Grace Bumbry, Christa Ludwig, Brigitte Fassbaender, and Frederica von Stade; tenors Mario del Monaco, Luciano Pavarotti, and Alfredo Kraus; baritones Renato Bruson and Hermann Prey; basses Cesare Siepi and Samuel Ramey; conductors Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Carlo Maria Giulini, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and Christoph Eschenbach; and ballet legends Galina Ulanova, Carla Fracci, and Rudolf Nureyev.

Fluent in Italian, German, and French, she has coached singers in foreign-language diction since 1980. Students include professionals such as Fassbaender and Fleming and students at Temple University and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, as well as private students in Philadelphia, New York, Vienna, and Munich.
